The LCR Honda Rider Randy de Puniet
Randy de Puniet is the racer from French, he has began his fifth season in the main class and that’s for the third time with the LCR Honda MotoGP Team, on Friday night by taking instigation from an off-season testing regime that saw him improve his position in each of the three 2010 tests. De Puniet’s best achievement was eighth fastest, the second fastest Honda, and that’s happened on the final pre-season Test in Qatar.
De Puniet lapped the desert track 21 times in the first free practice of the season. Scored the best time with a lap time of 1’57.031 and placing his Honda RC212V eighth on the timesheet.
Randy de Puniet
“Following the good result we achieved here less than three weeks ago we decided to go immediately for a long run as we wanted to evaluate some traction control mapping for the end of the race. So I just came out and the feeling with the bike was good though the grip level was not as good as the Test. Then we continued to run on 1’57.0s which is quite good (almost half second faster than our lap time in the Test). At the end we compared the bikes to make sure that all is working well and we have got some data now which will improve our engine management a little bit. We have kept the same set of tyres for the whole session so I am pretty sure if we put a new set of tyres on we could improve our lap time.”
Melandri and Simoncelli Very Confident
Before Sunday’s race, They’re prepared to find the great set-ups, they buckle down in the exercise sessions in Qatar. Has been ascertained Marco Melandri and Marco Simoncelli are focused on finding the best set-up on their several RC212V machines when free exercise will commence in Qatar on Friday evening.
“Testing didn’t go particularly well but we still have some things to try and I am quite confident about my race pace,” said Melandri. “I think a lot of riders will struggle to match their pace from Testing and if we can just improve a little and get a decent grid position then we can get involved in a group in the race that will allow me to take home a good result.”
Recalling his previous experience at the track, Melandri continued: “I had a great race in Qatar in 2005, when I fought with Valentino Rossi until the final lap, attacking him for the lead with three corners to go but running wide and having to settle for second place as a result. I also had a good race on the 800 in 2007 even though the bike still wasn’t up to scratch so I still believe we can have a good race this Sunday. It wouldn’t be the first time we have taken a good result after a difficult pre-season. The track is well suited to my riding style so I’m keen to see how well we can do.”
